Category Description

These are non-exclusive grouping of CMIP variables (e.g. monthly time slices of the baseline variables). Variables can belong to more than one group.

AttributeValue
justificationThe proposed set of monthly variables are considered high priority for DAMIP to assess changes in the climate system and the role of forcings in driving those changes. - daily temperature, precipitation, humidity and surface wind variables for assessing compound extremes, their changes, and the role of forcings in those changes (tas, tasmax, tasmin, pr, prsn, hurs, huss, day.sfcWind, day.sfcWindmax. - surface fluxes and hydrological variables for assessing the processes involved in temperature extremes (mrros, rsds, rlds, prw) - circulation related variables for assessing the circulation associated with extremes and more generally how features like the storm tracks are changing under different forcings. psl, ps, zg, ua, va, wap, ta (Note that I submitted a storm tracking data request that included fields at 6 hourly for the purpose of storm tracking and Eulerian metrics, but the use of daily was suggested from the DAMIP group - perhaps a discussion needs to be had about whether this can be optimized by considering only 6 hourly at a wider range of pressure levels or whether we should consider both daily and 6 hourly for these circulation related variables)
