justification | Future projections of hydroclimatic hazards at regional scale are essential for assessing what adaptation actions and resilience building measures are needed to ensure water security. The most widely-used drought index for drought assessments, the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), requires the potential evapotranspiration (PET) variable. Other hydrological variables existed in CMIP6 including total, surface and subsurface runoff fluxes, and soil moisture at top and all levels, have been widely used for studying the responses of different types of hydroclimatic hazards to climate change and should continue to be produced. |
